Before retirement in 2017, I spent the previous 30 years at the University of Nottingham: throughout as a Professor of Economics; and for almost the last decade as Vice-Chancellor of the University. I chose to spend most of my working life in this way because, as Nelson Mandela once said: Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world. And I stayed at Nottingham because hardly a day went by when I did not see people doing things to change our world.
Favourite Animal: My favourite animal is the giraffe, it is a wonder it is so graceful with such an anatomy.
Favourite Colour: I have never really thought of favourite colour, but I suppose it must be red: the colour of my bike, colour of my car, and Nottingham Forest play in red.
Favourite Film: Favourite film is a coin toss between ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Dark Night Rises’; Batman for adults!
